What do WRITERS write?
Creative stories, research-based essays (historical, scientific, political, etc.), fact and fiction. Letters, emails, job applications, resumes, letters to Santa, crop rotations... birthday cards, wedding vows, instructions for the babysitter. Ask the question, "What do readers read"? And the answers will be the same.
The purpose of the our Writing Center is to help students strengthen their writing and reading skills. We provide the space, the resources, and a quiet atmosphere to enrich the student's learning experience. We provide them the opportunity and encouragement to hone their communications skills, in preparation for their future lives wherever they are heading: college/university, trade school, work, military, space.
Our students become consumers, voters, volunteers, professionals, leaders, farmers, parents, and are all vital members of the communities in which they live.
The FHS Writing Center is a 65 computer multiple-use environment, and is used for a variety of curriculum. We can accommodate up to three classes at a time, and have space for individual students not with a formal class, to work on their own projects.
Eventually, the Writing Center will have trained Peer Tutors and Writing Coaches available, providing one-to-one assistance.
Students may access the WC Monday thru Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.
I look forward to seeing you in the Writing Center soon!
